Long Lasting isn’t always “good for business”

Whether it’s baking sourdough bread on a lazy Sunday afternoon, playing a game of hide-and-seek in the garden with my kids, or designing a backyard gazebo in time for picnic season—I’m never one to rush things. Sometimes, I scratch my head when I catch up with past clients and they send me pictures of a library I designed, or a garden sculpture I installed a decade ago that has somehow survived a primary school full of under 5’s. I would be lying if I didn’t sometimes think to myself…is this the smartest approach to running a profitable business? But I can’t see myself building a company any other way, it’s just not who I am.

Known for conceiving rich, warm, rustic spaces

Lily Brussee is the creative force behind Urban Bush Design. For the past ten years, she has been involved in a wide variety of projects across Africa and beyond for private homeowners, developers, and international schools. The firm’s projects range in scope from: new construction projects with superior design and project management, to major renovations, to interior design and decoration.

Lily is known for conceiving rich, warm, rustic spaces as well as having a discerning eye when it comes to sourcing art and furniture. Her designs fascinate with a perfect balance between art and functionality. She draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources including her extensive travels, nature, and fashion.

Not only did she build and design her personal residence in Kenya, but her home has also been featured in Homes Kenya Magazine, where she went on to write articles for the magazine’s interior design column.
